How do I sign up for GasPay?
The GasPay platform is in the testing phase and currently available to only those enrolled in a pilot feasibility study conducted by the Combating Household Air Pollution (CHAP) with Clean Energy project. Pending success of the feasibility pilot, GasPay will be made available to the wider consumer market. Please visit the GasPay contact page to sign up to receive a notification when the platform is ready for open enrollment.
Participants of the feasibility pilot will be registered for GasPay by study staff.
Does it cost anything to use GasPay?
There is no cost associated with signing up for GasPay. To order LPG, you need to top up your GasPay wallet from your mobile money wallet (Zeepay, MTN, Telecel Cash, etc.). Standard fees associated with mobile money transactions (e.g., 1%) will apply. These will be displayed with the total prior to payment confirmation.
What are the benefits to consumers of joining GasPay?
The main benefits of GasPay for LPG consumers are: 1) the GasPay dedicated savings wallet, where consumers can save for LPG purchases; 2) savings rewards linked to deposits made into the GasPay wallet and redeemable for LPG purchases; 3) the hire purchase option, where consumers can purchase LPG for less than the full price and pay back the difference in the following month with a low fee; and 4) at home delivery, availability dependent on supply.
How is GasPay different from buying LPG with mobile money or with other digital currencies?
GasPay offers savings bonuses applicable to LPG purchases and a hire purchase option with a low fee.
GasPay makes purchasing LPG easier with mobile money and quick cylinder exchanges (no more waiting in line for a refill). GasPay helps consumers save for an LPG purchase by having a dedicated savings wallet. Consumers can check the gas prices on cylinders on the platform. GasPay reduces the cost of an LPG cylinder through savings bonuses. GasPay also enables consumers to access LPG when they are short on cash by qualifying for a hire purchase.
Do I need to set up a Zeepay wallet to use GasPay?
No, but you need to have a mobile money wallet or be willing to set up one. During enrollment for the feasibility pilot, study staff will be available to help you sign up for a Zeepay wallet.
What happens to my savings in my GasPay wallet at the end of the study?
You can withdraw savings to another mobile money account or to a Zeepay wallet which can be cashed out at a Zeepay kiosk. Bonuses are only redeemable for LPG purchases and cannot be transferred to an external wallet or withdrawn as cash.
Is a bank account required to use GasPay?
No, a bank account is not required to use GasPay. GasPay has integrated with Zeepay, a mobile money provider, to streamline transactions. The GasPay platform itself serves as a mobile money wallet, allowing consumers to manage transactions and payments through the platform. Consumers do need to have a mobile money wallet to use GasPay. During enrollment for the feasibility pilot, study staff will be available to help consumers sign up for a Zeepay wallet.
