FAQs
Who owns GasPay?
GasPay is a result of the combined efforts of the Combating Household Air Pollution (CHAP) with Clean Energy project, a collaboration between Columbia University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC, Ghana Health Service), Rancard, a Ghanaian software developer, and Zeepay, a Ghanaian mobile money provider. The platform is currently in its testing phase, during which it is owned by CHAP. Rancard retains the rights to the software IP.
Who pays for the savings incentives?
During the initial piloting phase, the CHAP project will cover the costs of the incentives. Eventually, the LPG marketing companies will need to provide the incentives (which will come back to the vendor in the form of increased LPG sales). We will share data about how the savings incentives increase sales.
For the hire purchase, who bears the risk if the consumer does not pay back the value of the gas?
The CHAP project is initially covering this risk during the piloting phase. Default rate data will be collected, and an optimal fee structure for repayment will be established such that the fees cover the risk cost of default. After the initial pilot phase, the LPG marketing companies will bear the risk.
Can consumers only access GasPay via smartphone?
GasPay will work via a web app or via USSD.
Do I have to offer delivery?
No, you can choose whether to offer delivery or not.
Do I need to set up a Zeepay wallet?
Yes, each vendor will need to establish a Zeepay wallet to receive payment. These payments can then be transferred to outside accounts.
